COVID-19 frontline workers write Lungu over unpaid allowances.

FRONTLINE health workers in Lusaka Province have written to President Edgar Lungu requesting him to intervene in the non-payment of their allowances.

The frontline health workers are from the Levy COVID-19 Center, UTH, First Level Hospitals, Lusaka District Clinics, Chainama Hospital and the Cancer Diseases Hospital.

In a letter addressed to Chief Government spokesperson Dora Siliya, the health workers demanded to be paid for confronting a new disease that was still terrorising and killing people globally.

The frontline health workers have complained that while some of their colleagues refused to risk their lives, those that decided to take up the challenge had not received any allowances.

And when reached for a comment, Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary in-Charge of Technical Services Dr Kennedy Malama assured that the matter was being looked into.

ln April, health minister Dr Chitalu Chilufya announced that President Edgar Lungu had granted incentives to health workers who were at the frontline of the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
